JCO, Destination, JCO RFC and System in SAP portal

Hello All,

I am new to SAP portal and have a few questions which are as follows:

I am working on portal 7.3 version .

1] Now destination to my understanding is the target system that we want to connect to . Destination only has information about the system to connect  to alongwith  information about logon data. It phyically does not connect to any system but has the details of which system to connect to.

Now this destination can be http as well as rfc amongst others.

My question here is do Jco's actually establish the physical connection for both http and rfc destinations? This is contradictory to my question No.3 but i need clarification here.

Can we create http destination to connect to R3 system as well? or do i have to create rfc destination to connect to R3 system .

2]In which situation will I create http desitnation, what will the target be in this case, another portal?

3]Once a system object is created and sso established I can still create transaction iviews, I have not created any destination in this case then how is it working with no destination defined?

4]JCo connections are used to bring data only for webdynpro applications is it? If not, then In which situations do i create jco connections when i have destinations defined already, why do i create jco separately? I understand that once destiantion is defined connection is established , i don't know how?

Also once system is defined and sso configured connection is established with no need to define separate JCO or  rfc destiantion, this is where I am getting confused about when to create and use what for system connectivity..

5]Then what is the difference between jco rfc destination and rfc destination. I have read in the following link that jco rfc is used to connect to java connector framework, in which situation will we create this?

Kindly help me understand this, I have gone through the documentation but its a little confusing for my understanding.

Any help will be appreciated.

Regards,

Reena
